Scoring Low in Mocks? Do THIS After Every Test (Exact Process)

You studied.
You gave the mock.
And then—boom —the score hits your confidence.
If you’re scoring low in mocks for CAT, CET, NMAT, XAT, or any MBA entrance exam, pause right here.
  • Low mock scores don’t mean you’re bad at aptitude.
  • They usually mean you’re analyzing mocks the wrong way.
Top scorers don’t just give mocks—they break them down ruthlessly.
Here’s the exact post-mock process you should follow after every single test to actually improve your score.

Step 1: Don’t Recheck the Score Immediately

Most students do this:
  • Finish mock
  • Instantly check percentile
  • Compare with others
  • Panic
Wrong move.
Rule:
Take a 15–30 minute break after the mock.
Your brain needs to cool down before analysis.
Mocks are not judgment day—they’re diagnostic tools.

Step 2: Categorize Every Question (This Is the Game-Changer)

Open your mock analysis and divide every question into 4 buckets:
1. Correct & Confident
  • You knew the concept
  • You solved calmly
  • No guesswork
These are your strength areas. Protect them.
2. Correct but Guess / Fluke
  • Eliminated options
  • Lucky hit
  • Unclear logic
Dangerous zone.
You need to re-learn the concept, or this won’t repeat in the exam.
3. Wrong but Solvable
  • Concept known
  • Calculation mistake
  • Time pressure
  • Silly error
Goldmine category.
Most score improvement comes from fixing these.
4. Wrong & Unknown
  • New concept
  • No idea how to start
These tell you what to study next, not what to fear.
If you don’t categorize questions, you’re wasting the mock.

Step 3: Analyze Section-Wise (Not Just Overall)

Don’t say:
“Mera overall score kam aaya.”
Say this instead:
  • VARC: Accuracy low or attempt strategy wrong?
  • QA: Concept gap or speed issue?
  • LRDI: Set selection problem?
Ask WHY, not HOW MUCH.
Example:
  • Low QA score + high accuracy → Attempt issue
  • Low QA score + low accuracy → Concept issue
Two different problems. Two different solutions.

Step 4: Maintain a “Mistake Book” (Non-Negotiable)

This sounds boring—but toppers swear by it.
Your mistake book should include:
  • Question topic
  • Why you got it wrong
  • Correct approach
  • Key takeaway
Write in your own words, not textbook language.
Revisit this notebook before every next mock.

Step 5: Fix Strategy Before Fixing Syllabus

Many students think:
“Score kam hai = syllabus complete nahi hai”
Reality:
Most students lose marks due to bad strategy, not lack of knowledge.
Check:
  • Are you over-attempting?
  • Spending too much time on 1 question?
  • Picking wrong LRDI sets?
  • Guessing under pressure?
Strategy correction = faster score jump than syllabus completion.

Step 6: Apply ONE Improvement in the Next Mock

Don’t try to fix everything at once.
Choose ONE clear goal:
  • “I’ll skip lengthy QA questions faster”
  • “I’ll select easier LRDI sets first”
  • “I’ll reduce negative marking”
Mocks are experiments.
Each mock should test one improvement.

Step 7: Compare Yourself ONLY With Yourself

Stop asking:
“What percentile did others get?”
Ask:
  • Is my accuracy improving?
  • Are my silly mistakes reducing?
  • Is my time management better than last mock?
MBA entrance exams reward progress, not panic.

Final Truth (Read This Twice)

Low mock scores are normal
Ignoring mock analysis is fatal
Consistent analysis > more mocks
If you:
  • Give mocks regularly
  • Analyze them properly
  • Get the right mentorship
Your score will improve. Period.
